God asks us to do things.
sometimes they are hard things
and sometimes we make them hard.

we make them hard
by thinking too much
acting too little
and delaying too long.

until what could have been simple
becomes complicated.
what could have been done quickly
now requires a whole to-do
and mybe even apologies.

we commit to too much
sometimes even knowing
that we will back out.

and yet other times
we simply
expect too little
from our Almighty God.

if i truly believe
He is guiding me,
then why do i hesitate
too long?
Why do curious questions
turn to interrogations?

if i truly believe
He loves me
and has a plan for my life,
why do i so often
kick against it?

fear is a nasty beast
with tenticles so thin and strong
they creep in everywhere.

the antidote to fear?
it is not trust, well not exclusively.
the antidote to fear
is truth.

what if…nothing works out?

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” –Romans 8:28

what if…death comes knocking?

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” –Psalm 116:15

“As a shepherd cares for his herd in the day when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will care for My sheep and will deliver them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day.” –Ezekiel 34:12

“what if…this venture fails?”

“For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.'” –Jeremiah 29:11

what if…i am alone?

“May the Lord our God be with us, as He was with our fathers; may He not leave us or forsake us.” –I Kings 8:57

“You, in Your great compassion, did not forsake them in the wilderness; the pillar of cloud did not leave them by day, to guide them on their way, nor the pillar of fire by night, to light for them the way in which they were to go.” –Nehemiah 9:19

it is not a matter of conjuring up more trust
or more faith.
it is a matter of seeking the truth.
then the truth will lead to trust,
will lead to faith.
and will set us free…
