Flashback Friday: So Long Status Quo

This article originally appeared in the April 2007 issue of groundswell.

Today is the day.  This is your chance.  Springtime inspires us to clean out our closets, cars, and yards.  We breathe deep the fresh air and savor every second of fleeting sunshine.  There is a spring in your step and a song on your heart.  We are good at straightening up our surroundings.

I challenge you to a spring cleaning of a different sort.  Toss out the “I can’t”s and replace them with

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” –Philippians 4:13

Kick your “what if”s to the curb.  There is no place for “what if” in the temple of the Holy Spirit (that’s you).   Evict the idea that you are too small, uneducated, or unprepared.  Faith and confidence are moving in–there is no room for wavering.  Sound too hard?  Follow the example of a desperate father:

“I do believe; help my unbelief.” –Mark 9:24

You are called, chosen, and marked.  Say “so long” to status quo, and set your eyes on the One who has called you.  Let us each truly ascribe to:

“…lay aside every encumbrance…and let us run with endurance the race set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith.” –Hebrews 12:1-2

Banish the dust bunnies of your faith.  And mightily proclaim:

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.  Amen.” –Ephesians 3:20-21

Those who have followed groundswell for year will recognize that Flashback Friday is all about bringing in previously-published articles.  These articles appeared back when groundswell was published in the form of an email newsletter.  Now, those articles are searchable through the blog.  Check it out every Friday.  The photos are newly added to the blog.
