I ponder in and out on the blessing of friendship. I have wonderful friends in my outside-of-work life, and have for years. In the last nine months, though, God has blessed me with amazing friendships within my work life. I have always had great colleagues, but the relationships ended there.
About nine months ago, God dropped a work friend into my life, and the firm wall of work-over-here and life-over-there started crumbling. A month ago, He brought another friend. The two friendships, very different, but friendships nonetheless.
And the burden of work became lessened. Not because the work changed, but because the relationships changed within it. And though my weekends will not suddenly be filled with colleagues in my home, the sweet laughter of friendship peppers my work days.
“Ointment and perfume delight the heart, and the sweetness of a man’s friend gives delight by hearty counsel.” –Proverbs 27:9, NKJV
Praise God for the blessing of a friend.
