Reflection: This reading has a taste of, well, vanity. What is the purpose being wise when the wise and the fool are remembered no more? When both also die? One requires an eternal perspective for this reality to not shake their purpose. For what matters in eternity should also be what matters most in our lives here and now. Matthew 6:20 tells us to lay up treasures in heaven. Only then will the wise and fool being remembered no more make sense–for the seeds planted in our lives will be of heavenly origin.
Application: What treasures have you laid up in heaven? What treasure can you focus on today? Remember, God knows we are sinful creatures. Seek His will for your day today and move forward knowing His will reaps heavenly treasures.
Prayer: “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart–These, O Go, You will not despise.” (Psalm 51:17) God, we are broken at the vanity in which we invest. Re-focus our minds on that which is eternal today. Amen.
