Reflection: Just like animals, we live, then we die. Created from dust, pass away to dust–physically. So where can we find joy? In our work. But if work is vain, are we to find joy in vanity? May it never be. However, the righteous will find joy in doing what is righteous. The obedient will find joy as obedience grows. The godly will find joy in seeking the One True God. There is joy to be had–and had in the everyday actions God calls us to do.
Application: Have you struggled with purpose in the seemingly mundane? Do it in obedience, speak in faith, understand the world through God’s eyes. Commit for one day–and you will find joy.
Prayer: God, joy is a powerful drug. The enemy attempts to distract us with promises that vanity will bring joy. Reveal that lie in our hearts so clearly we feel sick at the very thought of wandering astray. Bring joy, overwhelming joy, undeniably You kind of joy in our lives. In Jesus’ name, the Source of joy, Amen.
