Reflection: So often my days are filled with eyes cast toward things and happenings. I miss out on the larger creation around me. Like Solomon writes, all is vanity. When I focus on me, it is truly vain–worthless and self-seeking. Yet when I lift my eyes to the amazing creation around me, evidence of the Creator Who guides me, trusting Him and walking faithfully come more easily.
Application: Where has your focus been? On what do you set your eyes during the day? How might you remember to look up instead of in?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Lord, thank You for all that You have given. Give us today the wisdom to recognize when our focus is vain. Remind us of Your glorious hand at work in our lives. Set peace in our hearts that You, alone, are the giver of all good gifts, things we could not do on our own. Thank You. In Your Son’s glorious name, Amen.
