Verse seven highlights something very important to the Christian life. In that verse, Solomon describes wisdom as the “principal” thing. Merriam-Webster defines principal as “the most important, consequential, or influential: chief.”
The. Most. Influential. Thing.
A foundation of wisdom sets the stage for a life well-lived in the path of the Father. It is the primary thing to build a life.
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.” –Psalm 111:10, NKJV
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.” –Proverbs 1:7, NKJV
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” –Proverbs 9:10, NKJV
Be not confused: Jesus is our salvation, our Savior. And following Him requires the humility to know that He is Lord. That, my friends, is consistent with wisdom being the principal thing. It is wise to submit ourselves to the only One who is able to redeem.
Fear the Lord. Get wisdom. Follow Jesus. That. Is. All.
