Psalm 61: To the rock…
“From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” –verse 2
Overwhelmed. In the place where God called me, I still feel overwhelmed. Burdened by all that must be done, weary in the feeling of needing more time, more energy, just…more. The certainty of knowing I am where I need to be doesn’t seem to keep my heart from anxiety.
But the psalmist answers: lead me to the rock. Not just any rock will do. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. In a state of overwhelmedness, it may require extra climbing, extra discipline, extra focus. But the overwhelmed heart, crying out to the Lord, can do all those things.
It is at the rock where the foundation is sure. At the rock, the vista extends for miles. On the rock that is higher than I, I glimpse the landscape of Your love and provision.
I can walk the steps before me for I know: at any time, I can call on the Lord and He will bring me to the rock.
