Psalm 64: Hide me from evil…
“Hide me,” the psalmist asks. From plotting, evil strategies of ones who seek damage and destruction. Though the psalmist describes those who would act against him, I wonder if we seek to be hidden from more insidious evil.
Workplace gossip, “prayer chains” that are really forms of judgment, and snarky comments meant to mock others are all scheming plots of the evil one set to bring division. Do I seek out opportunities to avoid such things? Do you?
Do I laugh along at the sarcastic comment, or do I rephrase in a way that shows honor? Do I let the complaints flow freely from my own mouth and encourage it in others, or do I recognize the mercy overflowing to me from heaven and seek to give the same to others?
Hiding from evil is more than being protected from harm. It also seeks to stop creating harm.
