Psalm 74: Waiting, just waiting…
“Arise, O God, plead Your own cause; remember how the foolish man reproaches You daily. Do not forget the voice of Your enemies; the tumult of those who rise up against You increases continually.” –verses 22-23
Ever have that day? When you cry out to God, wondering how long He will be patient with the ever-increasing crookedness of generation after generation? When will He make Himself undeniably known to even those who actively turn away? When will He throw it down with the devil and have His day?
The psalmist shares wisdom for that day:
“This is the day the Lord has made; we WILL rejoice and be glad in it.” –Psalm 118:24, NKJV, emphasis mine
But what about His judgment? Well, He held off for generations so that you could know Him. Maybe if we spent a little more time rejoicing and a little less time shaking our fist at the wickedness around us, He might just show us peeks and snippets of why He is waiting.
I may never understand the Lord’s patience this side of Heaven, but rejoicing in each day may just be the first step.
