“Make vows to the Lord your God, and pay them…” –verse 11
I tend to get really excited about things, but then reality creeps in and the excitement fades. Then the self-doubt and self-recrimination set in, reminding me again how I have failed to keep my word. Do you share this cycle? Have you found yourself making the same promises to God over and over again?
His graciousness allows us to do this, over and over, His patience does not flag. I wonder, though, if we would be easier on ourselves if we didn’t vow beyond that which we can do by ourself? It is by the grace of God and the strength of the Holy Spirit that we can accomplish the will of God. And it is only by the sacrifice of Jesus that we can come to the throne in the first place.
Make your vows to God–but maybe just make them in the knowledge that only by His grace can you keep them anyway.
What is God asking you to do? Be?
