“The blessing of the Lord be upon you; we bless you in the name of the Lord!” –verse 8
Blessing others, lending a helping hand, and serving the brotherhood stream throughout the church. But are we doing in in the name of the Lord?
I am not talking motivations. As a do-er, I shared my struggle with over-extending myself in ministry. My new pastor looked me square in the eye and said words sending panic through me: “You’re not allowed to do anything for six months.” At my eyes-wide-open response, he responded, “I’m serious. Just be.” He knew it would stretch me. And it has.
As a result, I can see more clearly when the Spirit actually leads me to actually help someone in His name. Not a programmatic initiative that can be reproduced on a regular basis. Just a gallon of spaghetti sauce here or a book there. Putting aside the compulsion to do in order to be part of a group, I am freed to just be in order to be part of the group.
Just being is enough. And in just being, I can sense more clearly the guidance of God to help in whats that are truly in His name.
