Chronological Bible: February 13, Refusing the call of God…
- Numbers 14:1-16:50
(Joshua and Caleb speaking) “Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.” –Numbers 14:9, NKJV
“Do not go up, lest you be defeated by your enemies, for the Lord is not among you.For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword; because you have turned away from the Lord, the Lord will not be with you.” –Numbers 14: 42-43, NKJV
The Israelites didn’t want to conquer the Amalekites for the Promised Land…until they wanted to conquer the Amalekites for the Promised Land. Their initial response to the scary proposition, refusing the call and blessing of God for the land shifted only when their lives were at stake. When the Lord threatened death, they changed their tune from complaining to eagerness. But God’s blessing for faithfulness does not always hang around until our fleshly desire lines up with His heavenly call.
And in the case of the Israelites, they went forward only to be beaten back by their enemies. The armies over which God promised victory had the Israelites followed His call now claimed victory as their own.
Be not foolish. God will not be mocked. His call may have a very limited time. And your shifting faith may not come around until after the blessing has passed.
Whatever He asks of you this day, do it this day. Do not worry about tomorrow and do not delay. Trust the call of God in the timing of God and do it. Waiting may very well result in your defeat and eventual loss of seeing the blessing come to pass.
