- Deuteronomy 25:1-28
I admit, in a society where arranged marriages are non-existent, the idea of the brother taking his dead brother’s wife has always raised a bit of an eyebrow for me. What if the brother is mean? What if… What if… What if…
Beneath my raised eyebrow, my little eyes catches a glimmer of God’s compassion on the widow. Her husband is gone and she is left without a son. Without any means or inheritance from her husband, she would be alone, destitute. But God would have it differently. The honor of the dead man’s name will live on through the same bloodline, the widow’s supply. Through God’s equation, her lineage is sustained, her life protected, and her needs supplied.
God’s heart for women, embedded in his laws for man screams of His desire that all His children be loved.
