Chronological Bible: March 12, Before you knew…
- Judges 1:1-3:6
Joshua has died. The people of Israel are without a leader…or are they?
“Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, “Who shall be first to go up for us against the Canaanites to fight against them?’ And the Lord said, ‘Judah shall go up. Indeed I have delivered the land into his hand.'” –Judges 1:1-2, NKJV
The people went to God asking who would battle for them, who would take the mantle and face the enemies? God already had the next man chosen. He knew Joshua’s time would pass and another would take the place of leadership. The people may have been singularly focused on the man in front of them, but God prepared for this day.
Serious life shifts can feel like all of a sudden there is nobody to look to, nobody to take our case. Where there once was a formidable leader, the space stands empty. The anxiety rises nipping on the heels of the questions more quickly rising.
But God…He knew the shift would come. He knew the paradigm would shift. And He was preparing the replacement long before you and I ever knew we would need one. Like the people of Israel, go to Him and ask. The time might not be there that He shares the new name, but keep pushing to Him. He has been preparing this day, and you for this day; He will lead you on.
