• 1 Samuel 1:1-6:21

Through Samuel, God reminded Eli of the sin that would bring down his house. Decisions made in times before would come upon him. His sons would die in battle. His reaction to that led to his own death. The result of his death was that his grandson would be born to a mother who died in childbirth.

The waves of consequence rolled. Crashing and crashing and crashing, the sins of yesterday demanded consequence. And the consequences came. Even the priest of the Lord was not immune from sinning nor from the consequences of that sin.

We fear not enough the consequence of our sin. Learn from Eli. Consider your own life, lay it bare before the Lord, and repent. Don’t just confess, turn away and do better.
