- 1 Samuel 7:1-17
Samuel. Called from before conception to serve the Lord. Once weaned, his mother brought him to the temple to serve the Lord. Unfamiliar with His call, Samuel trusted Eli when Eli told him the voice he heard in the night was that of the Lord. And Samuel answered Him.
In this passage, we learn of his integrity, to stand before the people and call them to remove their idols and return to the Lord. Samuel stood before the Lord and asked for His protection. And he took a tour of the people, from Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah, he went from one area to another to carry out the call of God on his life.
We each have gifts and talents. Though we may not have been left at the temple by our mothers, our God calls us in the quiet. He asks for our attention. You have a choice. “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening” could lead to a life of movement, of calling others to repent, of dedication wholly to the Lord. Ignoring the Voice could lead to the very sins Samuel called Israel to turn from. God has a call on your life. The choice to respond is yours.
