- 2 Samuel 22:1-23:39
- 1 Chronicles 18:1-13
I read passages like these and wonder: Did David ever get tired? Looking back at his life, the battle upon battle, did he ever wonder if the warring would end? Or does the man after God’s own heart simply look at the next hill, the next battle, the next enemy as an opportunity to see how God would act in the situation?
Did the challenges of king-dom weigh on him? Or did he accept the mantle understanding that it came with God’s provision? God’s mantle on a man is never intended to be carried alone. With a community of mighty men and spiritual advisors, David owned his part of the mantle and relied on his God to clear the way.
As I realize that I try to carry my mantle alone, I take notes on David’s life.
