- Song of Solomon 1:1-8:14
“I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or the does of the field, that you not stir up or awaken love until it pleases.” –Song of Solomon 1:7, ESV
This book is about marital love. The bride and groom, husband and wife, call to each other, adoring each other. But the lessons learned in their relationship can be extrapolated to other areas of our life as well. Pulling this marriage comparison into new testament scripture, remember that we, the church, are the bride of Christ. He is our bridegroom.
And as the Song of Solomon bride encourages her maids to not awaken love before its time, the church-bride would be wise to do the same. We, as the church, must not jet out ahead of the leadership of our bridegroom, Christ. We must follow His lead, patiently waiting for Him to reveal Himself.
The flip side is also true. When Christ gives the all-clear and tells us to go, we must go. Life is not all about the waiting. When the waiting is over, get going!
Is He calling you to a time of waiting or a time of going? Discern clearly His call, then go for it!
