- Proverbs 13:1-15:33
“The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands.” –Proverbs 14:1, NKJV
Current conversations in Christian circles debate the influence and positional leadership women should or should not have in the church. From ancient times, the Bible recognized the power of a woman. Though the debate of women in leadership will continue on, and not on this blog, the long-lasting influence of a woman is clearly recognized in biblical passages such as this.
The woman has power to build her house or tear it down. Actions contribute to one end or the other. As I work through physical therapy for various old injuries, there is one clear reality: if I do the exercises the PT gives, my body will strengthen and pain will lessen. If, however, I do not do the exercises, the opposite will be true. The pain will continue and it will take even longer for healing and strength to come, if it ever does. What is worse: not knowing what to do, or knowing what to do and choosing not to do it? I would say the second one. On days when physical discomfort rises up, I think of the times I decided to not do my exercises, and I know this could have been different.
So, I ask you. Are you doing the “exercises” needed to build your house? Or are you neglecting that which you know you should do, resulting in its destruction? Do the next thing necessary, carry out the wisdom you already have, and you will see strength reinvigorate the structure.
