Chronological Bible: June 14, God’s compassion…
- Micah 3:1-7:20
“Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. You will show faithfulness to Jacob and steadfast love to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.” –Micah 7:18-20, ESV
God delights in steadfast love. Discipline is but a small sliver of the whole life following God. His hand moves to compassion. His judgment to call His people away from lives that will destroy them. He calls out on behalf of the poor and against the rich who take advantage of the poor. His compassion cries out, declaring the life that will fulfill His people. He tramples our iniquities and casts away our sins. He fulfills His promises.
I sometimes forget the underlying compassion of the Lord. I can get caught up in the discipline or the lesson, or whatever I think I should be learning or doing in a situation. But taking a step back to remember the underlying foundation of everything He does. His heart is for His people, and it always will be. He created man in His image, created a world to support Him, and provided the Lamb sacrifice necessary to eradicate the judgment our sin requires. His love never fails.
