- Hosea 1:1-3:5
- Hosea 4:1-6:11
As Solomon declared in Ecclesiastes, there is nothing new under the sun. The church of Israel may not look much different than the modern church. The struggles are the same. The sin is the same. And the glory of God is tarnished in the ancient age and the current. We bemoan the mega-church, the minor church, the church plant. We divide the denomination, music style, and approach to youth group. We worship the personality rather than the Person of God. We behave as Israel, as Hosea’s wife.
But that need not dampen our spirit. If anything, it encourages me that God sees the same things now He witnessed centuries ago. He is neither surprised nor weary. Breaking the bonds of human nature, busting through the divisions we have created among the brothers and sisters in Christ, takes the same thing now as it did then:
“‘Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.'” –Hosea 6:3, ESV
Let us press on to know Him. Press on.
