Chronological Bible: June 7, His compassion just never fades…
- Hosea 7:1-14:9
“…My heart recoils within me; My compassion grows warm and tender. I will not execute My burning anger; I will not again destroy Ephraim; for I am God and not a man, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath.” –Hosea 11:8-9, ESV
Oh, praise Jesus. “…for I am God and not a man…” The lists of errs by Israel unroll. The prophets speak of despicable deeds. The hearts of the people hear judgment upon condemnation, how the Lord can cut them off from His presence. Yet the Lord grows warm and tender toward us. His compassion, oh His compassion. Though there were consequences to their misdeeds, the annihilation of Israel was not one of them.
As we struggle with forgiveness, or understanding, or compassion, let us praise Jesus that He does not face the same struggle. For He is God and not man, and we are so much the better off for it.
