- 2 Kings 24:1-4
- Jeremiah 35:1-19
The persistence of God astounds me. This “persistent” word appears more than once in the Jeremiah passage. Merriam-Webster offers this picture of persistence: “continuing to do something or to try to do something even though it is difficult or other people want you to stop; continuing beyond the usual, expected, or normal time : not stopping or going away.”
That is our God. Continuing beyond what others would think is reasonable, not going away. He seeks your salvation, your fellowship, and your transformation. He will send prophets, servants, flashes, and warnings. Whatever it takes to get your attention, He will send. He strove with the people of Israel for thousands of years. And then He gave us Jesus. If Jesus isn’t the picture of God’s perfect patience with us, and Jesus’ patience with the people of His earthly time, I just don’t know how to help you.
He continues. He continues in pursuing you, in pursuing me. And in doing so, He models the persistence He wants to create in me. Persistently loving those around me. Continuing to follow Him even if it may not make sense right now. Not stopping or going away when times are rocky can be the banner that draws the attention of the world around us.
Remember God’s persistence and show the same to those around you.
