Chronological Bible: July 27, The eternal covenant…
- Jeremiah 30:1-33:26
“Thus says the Lord: “‘If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done, declares the Lord.'” –Jeremiah 31:37, ESV
As the Lord speaks the new covenant to Jeremiah, the heavens reverberate with the future in mind. Though this covenant spoken during Old Testament times, the implications ring through the cross and resurrection. For with Jesus’ life and crucifixion, the Lord God accepting Jesus’ sacrifice as fulfillment of the law requiring blood payment for our sins, and Jesus’ ascending to the right hand of God allowing the Holy Spirit to come, we have the opportunity to never be cast away from God. The only prerequisite is the acceptance of the sacrifice as the substitution. Without this acceptance, you will stand before God relying on your own sinful self to meet the requirement of righteousness required to live eternally in the presence of God.
So first, accept Christ. Admit your sinfulness and receive His gift to clothe you in the righteousness required to set your soul at peace for all eternity.
Got that handled? Great! Now, remember it. One of the enemy’s prolific tools against Jesus’ people is trying to make them think they can lose the sealing of the Holy Spirit that comes in accepting Christ. Write this Jeremiah verse on a card and carry it with you. Make it the background of your mobile device. Put it on your mirror in the morning. Whatever it takes to beat back the enemy’s attempt to convince you of anything else. Embrace it, and live in grateful freedom.
