“Then he said to me, “’Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it too light a thing for the house of Judah to commit the abominations that they commit here…'” –Ezekiel 8:17, ESV

Refreshed anew, receiving mercy, I realize all the more how sin pervades my life. We are all sinners. And praise God for that realization. I am not alone. And neither are you. Maybe that is why we take sin so lightly. We have so much company in our saved-but-still-sinning lifestyle, that we fail to look instead at the holiness of God.

Let us realize the need to change our course. May we cry out to the Lord, turn away from the crowd, and follow the holiness of God, wherever it may lead. For how can we continue sinning when One came, experienced our pain, frustrations, and temptations, and laid down His own life that we may live differently? For when we allow our hearts to be open to the Spirit, and plead with the holy God to cleanse us, He will open our eyes. How can we not fall down and cry out like the angels, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty.”

For only when we rightly esteem the depravity of our sin, and rightly behold the holiness of God will we truly live.
