- Ezekiel 40:1-42:20
Be honest: did you read every word of today’s reading? Or did it seem a bit…extraneous…to your life. Do we, in today’s time, really need to know how many reed-lengths or cubits each area of the temple was? Maybe, maybe not. But here is what we do need:
We need to know the details matter to God. When He builds a temple, he knows how many vestibules there are and their exact dimensions. He leaves nothing to chance. The Lord Almighty purposes each measure, each area, and each each element.
“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” –1 Corinthians 3:16, ESV
You are a temple. If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, the Holy Spirit dwells in you. Just as every measure of the physical temple was given, every measure of you is known by God. He does not forget those whom He creates; and He created us all. Jesus knows every corner of your vestibules…He created them. You are known. You are loved. And you are cherished. Can you imagine Jesus at the throne describing to God the details of you, just as God described the details of the physical temple to Ezekiel? “Look, look here in this door jamb! Here is where she grew sooooo much! And over here, in the study, she spends many hours pouring over books. Her desire to know as much as possible is something I gave here. And, oh!, over here….”
You are known. You are created to be known. When we finally receive that truth, our lives transform as we relish in the knowingness of being in relationship with God.
