- Isaiah 42:1-43:28
“He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed He will not break, and a faintly burning wick He will not quench; He will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be discouraged till He has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for His law.” –Isaiah 42:2-4, ESV
This passage in Isaiah foretells the coming of Jesus. And these verses stop me in my tracks. His power to bring peace is incorruptible. This power does not express itself in arrogance. He does not stride through the street proclaiming His greatness. In fact, His greatness is expressed in bending low to the bruised reed, and fanning the faintly burning wick. He notices the small, the hurt, the bruised. And His powerful stride does not override His compassion. And yet, He will still establish justice throughout the earth. The justice will be perfect. And the picture of perfect justice caresses the bruised cheek of the wounded. Both existing in perfection streaming forth from the heart of Jesus.
