- Isaiah 60:1-63:19
“For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations. For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch.” –Isaiah 61:11-62:1, ESV
I see this interweaving pattern when I read this highlighted passage. Taking the first half, we can try with all our might to make change win the nations. We can use all of our wit and wealth and wisdom, but if the Lord has not prepared it, He will not cause righteousness and praise to rise. He must be in all and through all.
The second half of this passage shows our responsibility as well. Though God will make the righteousness and praise arise, we are to keep speaking of Him, of His salvation. We must keep our torch burning brightly among the nations.
He is the One Who draws the human heart. We are the ones who shine a light. He changes a perspective. We live the life He calls us to live. He changes a heart. We come alongside and support the new brother or sister.
A beautifully woven tapestry of God and us working. We would be wise to keep our roles straight.
