Chronological Bible: November 27, James steps in…
- Acts 15:1-35
- Galatians 1:1-24
The Jewish Council discussed the “issue” of Gentile believers. They heard testimony of movements and actions happening among the Gentiles. Their purpose was to determine whether to support them or not. The Council sought the truth of the situation. They had no interest in drawing boundaries around the movement of God. And when the testimony ended, James spoke. James led the Council; his opinion held much weight and his traditionalist roots held strong. James declared the movement was true and should be supported with personnel.
The church could have split. The support could have kept Jews on one side and Gentile believers on another. But James would have none of it. He stepped up. He spoke up. And he sent reinforcements.
Is there a situation in your life where you are the opinion leader? Do you need to be speaking up to bring unity? Take notes from James. He kept his traditionalist approach while acknowledging the movement of the Spirit in other populations. He brought unity in truth. Maybe it is time for you to do the same.
