- Acts 15:36-18:11
“And [the Athenians] took [Paul] and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, ‘May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? For you bring some strange things to our ears. We wish to know therefore what these things mean.’ Now all the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there would spend their time in nothing except telling or hearing something new.” –Acts 17:19-21, ESV
We can be troubled by the behaviors of those around us. Paul overlooked the city and saw the idol worship. He saw the people’s actions and took mental note. He would have known the Athenians liked to hear new things, new stories, and new ideas. When they asked to hear his testimony, he first acknowledged their religious tendencies. he didn’t shout them down or insult them. He noticed the underlying behavior that could be turned for good. He told his testimony, knowing they would listen. He used what was there to reach a people in mighty need of Jesus.
Don’t lose faith. Jesus can use anything to bring about restoration. Anything.
