- Hebrews 1:1-4:16
“Therefore He had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because He Himself has suffered when tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.” –Hebrews 2:17-18, ESV
Jesus didn’t just blow off His temptation. These weren’t easy things for Him to avoid, nor were they simply an act that had to be fulfilled. He experienced temptation. Hebrews tells us He suffered in those temptations. Jesus experienced the same mortal life as you and I. He experienced the pull of power, the temptation of comparison, the desire for a family of His own though His calling was different. He experienced hunger, and the temptation to take food from Satan himself to feed that hunger.
Jesus faced temptations that made Him suffer in order to choose right. He knows internal, spiritually, physically the experience of suffering in temptation. He knows the experience we have in struggling to choose right over wrong. Take comfort that He suffered it too.
