Chronological Bible: December 26, The boiled-down reason for the book…
- Revelation 1:1-3:22
- Revelation 4:1-5:14
“The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His servants the things that must soon take place…” –Revelation 1:1, ESV
As we end the year in the final book of the cannon, it is important we understand Jesus’ motivation for giving it to us. Amid the prophecy and John’s attempt to put human words on indescribable spiritual visions, remember this: God gave Jesus this revelation so Jesus could give it to us. We may not understand all of its nuances. We may get lost in the imagery. But this book was given from the Father Himself, through His Son, that we might not lose heart.
Imagine if we didn’t have prophesy of the end time. Imagine if we had everything else in the cannon of scripture, but no knowledge that a final war would be waged and sin would be eradicated forever. Imagine the struggle of living a life not knowing that one day there would be no more weeping, no more tears. Imagine if you didn’t know angels stood around the Throne, or your actions rose as sweet aroma before God Himself.
For all its terrifying imagery, Revelation gives us something else: hope.If you get stuck in the interpretation of the book, return to that simple truth. In Revelation, there is hope.
