• 1 Corinthians 12:1-15:58

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” –1 Corinthians 15:3-4, ESV

Paul founded his teaching to the Corinthians on scripture. He preached from scripture; he extrapolated from scripture. The message he gave made scripture more understandable to those to whom he wrote. He sought that they would understand, that they would gain freedom through the understanding and application of scripture.

With the wisdom and knowledge we seek in our hyper-connected world, we must remember scripture as first importance. Now, scripture may not tell me whether the symptoms experienced are a possible sinus infection, but it can tell us to be anxious for nothing. Scripture may not be able to tell us the score of the first round of playoffs, but it can tell us that all good gifts come from the Father of Lights. But for more things than we can count, scripture provides the firm foundation from which we can approach life.
