Chronological Bible: December 11, The greatest run-on sentences…
- Romans 15:14-16:27
- Acts 20:3b-21:16
“Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith—to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.” –Romans 16:25-27, ESV
Paul never met a conclusive punctuation mark he wanted to use. His run-on sentences about the grace and love of God astound me. In trying to read them aloud, I lost breath more times than I could count. In trying to read them faster, the excitement raises…and maybe that is his point (though probably not). But in reading passages like the highlighted one above with speed and precision, you can’t help but see the glory peeking out. Like a NASCAR race passing competitors and heading for the finish, one cannot help but be encouraged.
If you need a bit of encouragement today, read it and read it over again. Read it until the peace of God invades your heart and comes out your smiling face.
