On release and running the race before us…

blog--2014-04--running the raceI gave up worry for Lent.
I thought it would be hard.
I thought I would struggle,
would worry much.

Honestly, it hasn’t been too hard.
I’ve caught myself,
I’ve literally and figuratively called the name of Jesus,
and I’ve let the worry go.

In less than a week,
I am hurting.
Physically.
Apparently,
I have been tense…
REALLY tense.

As I ease the mental stress,
the layers of physical stress begin to emerge for the sake of finding release.

“…let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” –Hebrews 12:1, ESV

The race set before me is not one of worry and tension.
The place for pain is not one due to unnecessary tension.
Jesus came that we could run.
The race set before us is not one of worry and anxiety.

And in the transition from worry to trust, the tension releases, the layers of pain emerge, and they will pass too. Relaxation into the sovereign will of God lays aside every weight, freeing the body, mind, and spirit to run the unique race set before us.

Release the stress, and keep running.
